I attended Birmingham University and the College of Law in Guildford before I commenced my training contract. Before the LPC I was fortunate to undertake a vacation scheme at Shoosmiths and at one other firm.
In the first seat of my Training Contract I was part of the banking team in Reading. This was a great first seat and introduction to the firm, with the team undertaking some high value and high profile transactions during my six months there.
I am currently seconded to a client's in-house legal team based in London. The client is an international publishing and events company and, although there are often very diverse tasks, the secondment is primarily commercial and intellectual property. The secondment has been a very good experience so far because there is more responsibility earlier and you spend more time dealing with commercial clients more regularly. Although this is quite daunting and demanding at first it has allowed me to learn more in a short space of time.
Being a trainee at Shoosmiths means you get the benefit of playing a part in important transactions early on, getting a good level of support from the rest of the team and enjoying a friendly culture in your office and throughout the firm.
