New 2013 rates and limits for employment claims and payments

The new limits on employment tribunal awards and on statutory payments for 2013 have been announced.

Employment tribunals

Increases to maximum awards in employment tribunal cases have been announced:

  • A week's pay will rise to £450 (from £430)
  • The maximum basic award and statutory redundancy payment will rise to £13,500 (from £12,900)
  • The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal will rise to £74,200 (from £72,300)

It is intended that these changes will apply to cases where the effective date of termination is on or after 1 February 2013.

Statutory payments

New rates for statutory payments were announced on 27 December 2012. The following increases are proposed:

 Statutory maternity pay (£135.45)  £136.78
 Statutory paternity pay (£135.45)  £136.78
 Statutory adoption pay (£135.45)  £136.78
 Maternity allowance (£135.45)  £136.78
 Statutory sick pay (£85.85)  £86.70 [From 6 April 2012]
