Electronic Communications Code now in force
Author: Zoe Wright
Applies to: England, Wales and Scotland
The new Electronic Communications Code has come into force today (December 28) - replacing out-of-date and complex rules first introduced in 1984 and extended in 2003.
The code is part of the Government's Digital Economy Act 2017, and it is hoped it will facilitate widespread connectivity and address some of the critical issues that currently beset the telecoms industry.
Any new agreements from today will be governed by this new set of rules, while agreements prior to December 28 will be governed by previous rules, subject to some transitional provisions.
