Paul is a real estate lawyer who acts for a wide range of clients including developers, local authorities, house builders, retailers and lenders and advises on all aspects of planning law.
His expertise includes Section 106 Agreements, highway agreements, planning enforcement issues, rights of way and common land/village green issues, planning appeals, judicial review, compulsory purchase, advising in connection with Environmental Impact Assessment requirements and advising on acquisitions that are conditional on planning permission.
Examples of Paul's current and recent projects include:
- advising a developer client in connection with applications for large mixed use schemes in central London, a 450 unit residential scheme in Wiltshire, and in connection with proposals for the regeneration of Winfrith Technology Park in Dorset;
- advising in connection with a High Court challenge to the adoption of Winchester City Council's Core Strategy;
- advising Churchill Retirement Living Limited in the negotiation of Section 106 Agreements for its new retirement homes, often including the consideration of viability assessments and the provision of affordable housing contributions in lieu of on site provision;
- advising Chichester District Council in connection with re-development proposals for a 500 dwelling development close to the centre of Chichester.
Paul joined Shoosmiths as a solicitor in 2007 and became an associate in 2011. Prior to joining Shoosmiths Paul worked as a solicitor for West Sussex County Council, which is where he completed his training contract.
