Scott is an Associate in the Belfast office.
He studied law at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and qualified as a solicitor in 2008.
Before joining Shoosmiths, Scott worked for one of Northern Irelands leading commercial firms, then for a specialist litigation firm and finally in general practice. He is experienced in both contentious and non-contentious legal work.
Scott acts for creditors, finance houses, debt purchase companies and suppliers of goods and services in recoveries actions brought under regulated and unregulated agreements. He also acts for creditors and finance houses in defending claims brought by customers under the ‘Sale of Goods’ legislation extending to advices on warranties and indemnities. He further advises on the statutory obligations arising out of the ‘Consumer Credit’ legislation. Scott also acts for lenders in repossession proceedings. Other litigation experience includes, personal injury claims, contractual disputes, shareholder disputes and actions for defamation.
Non Contentious Work
Scott is experienced in the sale, purchase and re-mortgage of residential properties and advises on private tenancies law. His property experience extends to commercial sales, purchases and leases. He advises on the business tenancies legislation. He has acted in the sale and purchase of SME’s and in a significant corporate restructuring and private equity investment. He is experienced in distributorship agreements, agency arrangements and franchising.
Scott has always had a keen interest in business and never loses sight of his client’s commercial objectives. He studied International Human Resource Management as a non-law elective at university scoring a first and spent two years after university and before practicing law working for an international pharmaceutical company in a business development role. During this short time he passed his ABPI exams and was promoted from a territory manager to an international key account manager.
