Benefits soon to be available for all victims of Mesothelioma
23 July 2008
The Child Maintenance and Other Payments Bill is to provide that ALL those diagnosed with the asbestos related disease Mesothelioma will receive a lump sum payment.
The Bill which it is believed will be enacted in October 2008 will extend the categories of persons who can claim for lump sum payments for mesothelioma. This will provide up front financial support to those who are unfortunate enough to develop mesothelioma but would not be eligible for payment currently under the 1979 Pneumoconiosis (Workers Compensation) Act or for Industrial Injuries Disablement.
Indeed people who currently cannot claim would include secondary victims of asbestos, such as women who have been exposed to asbestos by washing their husband’s overalls.
