Shoosmiths records library leader win

The UK’s leading supplier of public library and archive management systems has handed its legal work to Shoosmiths.

Nottingham-based DS Limited will have employment, commercial/IT contracts, public procurement, intellectual property and property work carried out by the national law firm.

Shoosmiths secured the contract after demonstrating that it can offer commercial, not just legal, advice.

Its public sector experience also attracted DS, whose customers include local authorities, universities, colleges, schools, archives, museums, corporate, government, and research institutions.

Director of finance Roger Smallwood said: “We wanted lawyers we could build a strong commercial relationship with, and that, coupled with Shoosmiths’ public sector knowledge meant they were the best fit, and most appropriate for our needs.”

Shoosmiths partner and corporate lawyer Peter Seary will lead the DS team.

Part of Sweden’s Axiell Group, DS specialises in the design, development, supply, implementation and support of collection management systems. It works with library, museum, archive and record centre experts to develop its Galaxy, OpenGalaxy, and Calm product ranges.
