Financial services leader is new Shoosmiths client

18 November 2008

Shoosmiths is to handle key areas of legal work for LV=, the financial services provider formerly known as Liverpool Victoria.

The national law firm will act for the friendly society in two key areas:
• Consumer Credit Act 2006 (CCA) compliance and regulatory issues
• general legal queries

Joanne Davis, partner and head of Shoosmiths’ Birmingham Lender Services team, heads the account.

Instructions to date have included reviewing CCA agreements and drafting CCA statements for insurance products.

Shoosmiths is also first port of call for CCA advisory work, has recently assisted LV= with a CCA compliance project, and successfully implemented the new Statements and Default Protection notices and procedures in time for implementation on 1 October 2008.

Partner and head of Lender Services Waine Mannix said: “I believe our reputation for excellence in this sector contributed enormously to us winning this work, along with our proactive approach.”

Shoosmiths, which also handles dispute resolution for LV=, works closely with LV= Head of Legal Alison Vickers.

LV= is the UK’s largest friendly society according to the Association of Friendly Societies Key Statistics 2007 based on total net assets, and provides a wide range of financial products, from savings to insurance and investments.
