Shoosmiths shortlisted in prestigious FT awards

26 August 2009

National law firm Shoosmiths has been shortlisted in the prestigious FT Innovative Lawyers Awards 2009.

It is the first time it has entered the annual awards, and is one of up to six firms shortlisted in the billing and fees category.

Shoosmiths cited the work it has done to help drive down the legal spend of client Hewlett-Packard Limited.

In answer to the question How can a law firm help you reduce your legal budget?, Shoosmiths created a ground-breaking billing model combining elements of risk and reward, which since 2008 has helped Hewlett-Packard Limited make significant legal spend savings.

This model also enabled the client to bring more predictability to budget management.

Client partner Stuart Little said: “There was some resistance to this billing model within the firm, but we pushed it through and it has worked beautifully, and we succeeded in coming in under client budget.

“To now have it short listed for such a prestigious award is a real bonus.”

The awards will be presented at a ceremony at London’s Science Museum on 22 October, and the fourth annual FT Innovative Lawyers Report will be published the following day.

Widely regarded as the best researched in the market, the report presents a unique analysis of the legal industry and is the only ranking of lawyers by innovation.

This year it focuses on the activities of lawyers in the face of recession and how they have helped clients adapt to changing market conditions.
