Shoosmiths wins prestigious FT award
23 October 2009
National law firm Shoosmiths is a winner in the prestigious FT Innovative Lawyers Awards 2009 - at the first time of asking.
Shoosmiths was among six firms shortlisted in the billing and fees category. It is the first time it has entered the annual awards.Shoosmiths cited the work it has done to help drive down the legal spend of client Hewlett-Packard Limited.
In answer to the question How can a law firm help you reduce your legal budget?, Shoosmiths created a ground-breaking billing model combining elements of risk and reward, which since 2008 has helped Hewlett-Packard Limited make significant legal spend savings.
This model also enabled the client to bring more predictability to budget management.
Client partner Stuart Little said: “This is a real coup. While we weren’t really expecting to win, the fact we have is testament to the faith shown in what was a quite radical departure for law firm pricing.
“We have shown we aren’t afraid to challenge conventional norms to meet clients’ needs. Winning this accolade is clear evidence of our progressive stance.
“We’re all absolutely thrilled.”
Little received the award last night, at a ceremony at London’s Science Museum. The FT published its fourth annual FT Innovative Lawyers Report today (23 October).
Widely regarded as the best researched in the market, the report presents a unique analysis of the legal industry and is the only ranking of lawyers by innovation.
This year it focuses on the activities of lawyers in the face of recession and how they have helped clients adapt to changing market conditions.
