Shoosmiths is Leasing Life top law firm

Shoosmiths has been voted top law firm at a leading asset finance journal’s annual awards.

It was named UK Law Firm Asset Finance Provider of the Year, at the Leasing Life Awards 2009.

The awards recognised people and companies that had innovated or made the most of a difficult year; and were part of Asset Finance 2009, a conference for the asset finance sector held in Berlin.

Partner and head of small and medium ticket asset finance Joanne Davis was in the German capital to collect the award with fellow Shoosmiths partners, including Chris McClure, head of big ticket asset finance.

Leasing Life said: “Shoosmiths´ small and mid-ticket asset and consumer finance business has seen dramatic growth since its formation in January 2008. As well as seeing a 41% increase year-on-year in new billings during the first half of this year, it also won an impressive list of new clients in 2009.

“Also, besides being a leading light in insolvency and fraud work in the UK leasing sector, the firm has also advised on such large transactions as the setting up of wholesale funding programmes for new bank.

“Much of the success and growth of this business has been due to the hard work and dedication of its head, Joanne Davis, who despite being aged just 34, has become a leading force in the provision of advisory services for both leasing companies and the wider industry, including the Finance & Leasing Association.”
 
Shoosmiths was nominated after taking part in Leasing Life’s annual survey of law firms, which revealed the firm’s asset finance work rose 92.2% year-on-year. 

The Leasing Life latest accolade comes hot on the heels of Shoosmiths winning the Litigation Team of the Year title at the Credit Today Awards 2009.

The asset finance and litigation teams form part of the firm’s Lender Services Group, headed by partner Waine Mannix.

He said: “This is a remarkable achievement, and shows what can be done by a dedicated, hard working team, even in difficult economic conditions. For the Lender Services Group to win one award this year was fantastic, to win two is hugely impressive.”
