Shoosmiths rises to university challenge

26 May 2010

Shoosmiths has been appointed to the recently formed Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham legal panels.

The national law firm will act for both universities after they ran a joint procurement for legal services.

Shoosmiths will offer property advice to both universities’ estates; human resources expertise to Nottingham Trent University; and intellectual property advice to the University of Nottingham.

Nottingham-based partner Chris Garnett, who led Shoosmiths’ team throughout the procurement process, said: “We’re delighted with this appointment following a thorough and rigorous three-stage process involving pre-qualification, invitation to tender and presentation stages.

“Academic institutions are no different from other organisations in wanting cost-effective legal advice that comes with commercial insight and experience. We demonstrated we can provide that.”

Alex McFarlane, who oversaw the tendering process on behalf of both universities, said: “Joining forces for the tendering process meant we were able to present an attractive package of work and secure cost-effective legal support from a number of leading law firms.”
