Shoosmiths wins IP award for CAPIP.EU effort

14 January 2011

Shoosmiths has won an award for its work to help stem the tide of counterfeit goods across Europe.

The national law firm’s intellectual property (IP) team scooped the Innovation of the Year category at the annual Intellectual Property Magazine Awards.

Shoosmiths’ entry concerned its part in establishing CAPIP.EU, a pan-European coalition aimed at fighting counterfeit goods and piracy, and which boasts 23 member law firms and offices in 29 jurisdictions.

Partner and IP specialist Gary Assim said: “What CAPIP.EU offers is legal services to IP rights holders, helping them find, seize and destroy counterfeit goods.”

Shoosmiths got involved when working on IP cases alongside a number of other European law firms.

Assim said: “To be recognised for helping found this innovative new organisation is hugely gratifying, and winning this award is recognition for all the hard work the team has put in.”

The Intellectual Property Magazine Awards recognise the contribution of IP teams across every industry and business sector around the world – whether trade mark or patent lawyers, copyright and brand owners, or licensing practitioners.

One of the IP sector’s most important events, the awards were presented at a black tie dinner The Dorchester, in London.
