Lynne Burns runs for Cancer Research UK
12 November 2007
Shoosmiths secretary Lynne "Burns is limbering up in preparation for the BUPA Great South Run, in support of the charity that helped to save her life.
This year the "popular ten-mile race, which follows a scenic route through Portsmouth, will donate its proceeds to Cancer Research UK.Lynne, who has suffered from breast cancer in the past, had successful treatment nearly three years ago. Since then her health has gone from strength-to-strength and she is more determined then ever.
She commented: “Cancer has affected the lives of me and my family. I am fighting fit and healthy now but have huge respect for the work of Cancer Research UK. Its continued research and developing support for sufferers is vitally important. I want to give something back in return for my second chance.”
Having come third in the Southampton Race for Life earlier this year, agile Lynne, aged 40 keeps fit by running six miles every day from her home in Lee-on-the-Solent to Shoosmiths’ offices in Whiteley.
Her efforts have received international recognition, taking her as far as Mumbai where she came eighth in the Mumbai half marathon and Phuket where she came second in the Laguna Phuket International Marathon, all for a cause that is close to her heart.
This year Cancer Research UK will be cheering on the spirited runners from an open-topped branded bus and they anticipate that there will be even more runners than last year when some 750 supporters crossed the start line.
Lynne is asking people to consider making charitable donations to the cause, taking place on Sunday 28th October.
