Update on the supermarket and dairies OFT investigation

10 January 2008

In September 2007, we reported that the OFT had found evidence suggesting that certain supermarkets and dairies had been engaging in price fixing.

Last December, a number of companies, including Asda, Dairy Crest and Sainsbury's admitted that they had conspired to keep the retail prices of liquid milk, value butter and UK produced cheese artificially high.  They agreed to cooperate fully with the OFT's investigation and so received significantly reduced fines.

The OFT's is continuing its investigation into Lactalis McLelland, Morrisons and Tesco.
