New recruit helps corporate keep growing
01 February 2008
Shoosmiths’ Birmingham corporate team continues its rapid growth with the addition of a new solicitor.
John Finnemore, who has wide experience of public and private mergers and acquisitions, AIM transactions, joint ventures and group reorganisations, has joined from Eversheds to make it a seven-lawyer strong corporate team at the national law firm’s Colmore Row office.Partner and Midlands corporate head Chris Garnett said: “Before May 2006 we had no corporate lawyers in Birmingham.
“Since then, steady recruitment of top quality people at all levels means Shoosmiths now has a significant corporate team in the city, and one that is well placed to provide the very best advice to clients across the region.”
Those clients include PLCs and private companies, private equity and venture capital investors, management teams and owner managers for whom the team acts on a range of deals, including acquisitions, disposals, management buy-outs, equity fund-raisings, restructurings and strategic joint ventures. In 2007, the Birmingham team undertook 30 corporate transactions with a combined value of £325m.
A recent deal saw Shoosmiths advise on a ground-breaking £120m property regeneration partnership for Langtree Group with Advantage West Midlands, and among the corporate team’s other Midlands clients are Alliance Boots, Thorntons, Marston’s, and Catapult Venture Managers.
John Finnemore’s experience includes assisting a leading brewer on the auction of more than 100 of its pubs, working with major banks, and advising an international private equity fund on the bid process for a £75m purchase.
Birmingham corporate partner Geoff Perry said: “We’re delighted John has joined the team. He will help to broaden our collective experience, and further enhance Shoosmiths’ market profile in the West Midlands.”
