A new associate has been brought in to head Shoosmiths' housing management litigation team, advising social landlords and local authorities.

Bukola Aremu, who has more than 10 years' housing management litigation experience, will provide legal advice to registered provider (RP) clients on a wide range of matters, including anti-social behaviour, possession claims, and service charge disputes.

Joining from Wragge & Co, she will also advise on non-contentious housing management issues, and has experience defending claims bought by tenants under Human Rights Act 1988 public law defences.

Shoosmiths' housing management litigation team is part of the firm's national property litigation practice headed by partner Nick Shepherd.

He said: "This is a significant appointment for us. Bukola joins having been at firms with strong reputations for social housing work, and brings with her a breadth of knowledge gained from her time both at those firms and in the public sector.

"It means she'll immediately be in a position to give authoritative advice to our key social housing clients, such as Accord Group; Derwent Living; and WM Housing Group, which includes Optima Community Association and Whitefriars Housing."

Aremu has worked in-house for local authorities and, whilst in private practice, for more than 100 housing associations.

Shoosmiths' 19-strong national property litigation team is one of the largest and most experienced in the country, specialising in the full range of landlord and tenant litigation, and other property disputes.

It is in turn part of the firm's Real Estate practice group, also one of the largest in the UK. As well as property litigation, it comprises commercial property, construction, planning, and environmental specialists. Clients include commercial and residential developers, investors, retail and leisure operators, major corporate occupiers, banks and other funders, and a range of public sector bodies.
