National law firm Shoosmiths has expanded its real estate offering in Edinburgh with the hire of an established senior associate.

Sheelagh Cooley joins from Anderson Strathern where she was a senior associate in the real estate team specialising in property finance, having acted for many financial institutions. Sheelagh joined Anderson Strathern in 2003 upon qualification.

At Shoosmiths, Sheelagh will be continuing to specialise in property finance and will also be undertaking a range of other real estate work such as acquisitions, disposals and all aspects of leasing work.

Sheelagh has significant experience of acting on large portfolio and multi-jurisdictional finance work. Sheelagh also counts insolvency practitioners among her clients, having accrued experience in insolvency and restructuring work.

Sheelagh has particular interests in healthcare funding, including dentistry and care homes, and pension scheme lending (SIPP and SSAS), having undertaken a significant amount of work in both sectors.

Sheelagh grew up in Northern Ireland before moving to Scotland to study law. She is also dual qualified in Scotland and England and Wales.

Janette Speed, head of office in Edinburgh, said: 'I am happy to welcome Sheelagh to the Edinburgh office, which is going from strength to strength since opening in 2012 and we have already made a number of high-profile appointments.

'Sheelagh has built a great reputation within the marketplace in Scotland and we wish her every success here.'

Sheelagh Cooley added: 'Shoosmiths' client focus and dynamism along with its culture and values are what attracted me to work here. The ambitions of both the firm and the real estate team are very much in line with my own and look forward to playing a role in building the firm's already excellent reputation in Scotland.'

Sheelagh's hire comes hot on the heels of recent Edinburgh appointments; real estate associate John Dunlop and conveyancing partner, Steven McDonald.

Private client associate Claire Christie also joined Shoosmiths' Edinburgh family law team this month.

There have been 41 appointments since the office opened in 2012.
