Steven McDonald, who joins as partner in the private client team, is a keen musician and has released studio albums with the band 'Einstein's Wardrobe'. He has also co-written music for television and for the 2002 Scottish Commonwealth Games team.

John Dunlop, who joins as an associate in the real estate team, is a keen runner and was the 2003 Scottish indoor 400m champion.

Both John and Steven have also excelled at building their legal careers. Steven joins Shoosmiths from Anderson Strathern where he was partner and head of residential conveyancing. He has more than 16 years' experience as a legal adviser.

John Dunlop joins from Pinsent Masons and counts more than six years' experience in the real estate sector.

Shoosmiths partner and head of the Edinburgh office, Janette Speed, said: 'Steven and John are both significant additions to our already impressive real estate and private client line-ups. Their appointments will undoubtedly help us forge new relationships as we build our national offering.

She added: 'Evidently both Steven and John are determined and talented people who have achieved great things outside of work as well as inside of it, traits which we look for when building our teams. We're excited to have them on board and look forward to welcoming their positive contributions to our business.'

Steve McDonald said: 'It is a pleasure to join Shoosmiths, a firm that holds dear key values such as responsiveness and cost transparency, which are always important elements to clients. I look forward to building on our presence in the region.'

John Dunlop added: 'It is an exciting time to join the team. Real estate is growing and Shoosmiths has a great reputation.'

Their arrival marks the 22nd hire into the Shoosmiths Edinburgh office since last year.

Shoosmiths offers a full range of services to clients in Scotland, whether these be for family law matters and general private client work or in the commercial areas of banking and finance, commercial property, corporate, debt recovery, dispute resolution, employment and insolvency and restructuring.
