A new partner hire has swelled Shoosmiths' corporate team in Manchester to eight.
It comes as the team celebrates winning a prestigious national corporate law award, and a raft of recent deal successes.
Kieran Toal, who has strong links with North West private equity houses and corporate finance advisers, will help pursue new clients and instructions.
Shoosmiths has just been voted M&A Law Firm of the Year 2013, which follows hot on the heels of being named Transactional Legal Advisers of the Year at the HealthInvestor Awards 2013, where judges said: " "Shoosmiths demonstrates high levels of customer satisfaction and attention to detail.focuses on innovation and cost effectiveness."
Toal joins the firm, having spent the previous 10 years in the corporate team at Addleshaw Goddard, to work alongside corporate partners Mark Dawson and Karen Procter, and banking partner Graham Hall.
He has worked on a number of high profile private equity and private and public company transactions in the region, advising blue chip, household name clients and significant businesses in the North West in a range of sectors.
The Manchester team recently advised learndirect, the UK's leading online learning provider, on two linked acquisitions of training businesses, as it bought the shares of TABS Training Ltd. and the business and certain assets of TLE Ltd. It has also completed several recent transactions for A2E Venture Catalysts, worked on the Palatine-backed investment in health insurance broker Chase Templeton, and has since completed several acquisitions for that business.
Mark Dawson said: "Shoosmiths' national Corporate Practice group has enjoyed three years' growth in a difficult and uncertain market, and we've quickly established a strong team here in Manchester.
"It has played an important part in the national team's continuing and award-winning success, and with a string of important deals to its name, is making quite a name for itself in the North West.
"Another energetic, market-facing partner like Kieran will help us build on that progress and further increase our market presence and penetration, raising our profile in the North West and helping us develop opportunities."
Shoosmiths' national corporate team spans seven UK locations, including Manchester, and has seen year-on-year growth in deal activity, reflecting its growing national reputation. In 2012, it was ranked third in the UK Experian Corpfin Legal Adviser League Tables for volume of deals done.
It advises PLCs and private companies, management teams, equity investors and debt providers - from start-up and first round finance to mergers and acquisitions - buy outs, development funding, flotations and other exits.
