Shoosmiths has strengthened its competition law offering with the hire of a new partner.

Simon Barnes joins from international law firm Hogan Lovells.

He has extensive experience advising on competition law compliance, merger control, competition investigations and litigation.

As well as working with businesses to develop and implement effective compliance programmes for their staff, Barnes regularly provides advice on the competition law considerations arising from clients' day-to-day commercial arrangements.

He will work alongside Peter Andrews, partner and head of Shoosmiths' growing EU and competition unit.

With associate Sarah Livestro and solicitor Jaime Moore, the team advises on all aspects of UK and EU competition law and public procurement, and boasts household name clients in sectors including retailing, motor manufacturing, and construction.

Andrews said: "Simon brings with him a wealth of experience, and has dealt with the Office of Fair Trading, the Competition Commission and the European Commission on behalf of companies under investigation, merging companies and complainants. He has also advised in relation to cases before the General Court of the European Union, in Luxembourg.

"All that, coupled with his experience of industries including food, brewing, video games, banking and transport, is sure to mean he'll prove a real asset to what is a successful and growing team."

Barnes is described in the 2012 edition of legal directory Chambers as 'wonderfully impressive'.
