National law firm Shoosmiths has won another major industry award, this time for its growing transport & infrastructure group.
The Legal 500 UK Awards recognise excellence across the legal sector, and for particular disciplines and sectors. The Shoosmiths' transport team has won the 2014 (regional) transport firm of the year title.
Shoosmiths' partners Chris McClure, Ursula Gould and Joanne McGuinness are the key players within the team which acts for clients including Hitachi Rail, Stagecoach South West Trains and Swiss International Airlines. The team has expertise in all forms of transport including aviation, freight, light and heavy rail.
Lead transport partner, Chris McClure, said: 'Third party recognition of our work is always welcome, especially when it comes on the back of a very successful year for the team. We work with a very broad range of clients and on a very wide number of projects, but our client-focused approach applies whether we are working in a multi-billion pound, multi-jurisdiction deal or a small, one-off transaction.'
The award win comes as the latest recognition in a string of award and industry success for Shoosmiths, including being named No.1 UK firm for client satisfaction by Legal Week in 2013, No.1 for employee satisfaction by Legal Week in 2013 and again in 2014.
The transport team were also shortlisted for a major international award at the American Lawyer's global legal awards in New York in September 2014 for their work advising Hitachi Rail on a £4.5 billion order for the next generation of Britain's intercity trains.
On top of all this, Shoosmiths has just been recognised with best-ever rankings in the Legal 500 directory where rankings rose significantly, with the number of tier one rankings increasing from 26 to 29 with a further 60 practice areas recommended, making 99 ranked practices in total. This means 31% of Shoosmiths' teams are now ranked as tier one across the UK. In addition to this, 180 individual lawyers are named and recommended.
Like directory rankings, awards are an important third-party reference guide to the legal sector.
Shoosmiths works with many household name, blue chip companies, leading financial institutions, public and private sector organisations and foreign-owned corporates across the country and, increasingly, internationally too.
Shoosmiths CEO, Claire Rowe, added: 'This is all a terrific reflection on the hard work of our teams and on our ambition to become the national law firm of choice.'
Chris McClure has also been individually ranked in band one by the Chambers 2015 directory for his rail industry work.
