Data protection
Protection of personal data has to become a way of doing business if your organisation is going to protect itself against the risks associated with breaches of the Data Protection Act 1998 ("DPA") and other related regulations.
Keeping your customer data safe from theft is a key business issue. With identity fraud on the increase, detection methods are becoming much more sophisticated. If a customer becomes a victim of identity theft the source of that data could actually become public knowledge. Maintaining customer loyalty is difficult and the risk of damage to brand acute if the customers bank account is stripped by criminals and your company is identified as being the source of stolen data.
Regulatory bodies now have the power to impose substantial fines. In a recent case this amounted to a fine of almost £1 million for a company identified as being the source of information stolen by criminals who then went on to commit identity fraud. Your customers are becoming ever more aware of their rights under the DPA including rights to claim for compensation for unlawful disclosures that lead to financial loss.
We have a dedicated team which deals in all aspects of data protection. Our services include:
- Large scale DPA audits of marketing, processing and storage protocols
- Advising on direct marketing campaigns and the application of The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations
- Liaising with the information Commissioners office in response to complaints from individuals and ICO investigations
