Successful settlement following inhalation of toxic fumes
29 April 2009
Our client inhaled fumes whilst at work following a fire at neighbouring premises
What we did
Shoosmiths collated evidence concerning the fire from local press and YouTube.
We then notified the defendants of our client’s claim. Liability was admitted, and our client was referred to a respiratory physician. Once medical evidence was obtained, the claim was settled.
Background
Our client worked in a business park in Corby, Northamptonshire. Whilst at work, she heard an explosion and went out of her office to investigate. Once outside, our client noticed that a fire had started at a neighbouring property. Unknown to her, the property contained chemicals that emitted toxic fumes.
It was whilst our client was investigating the source of the explosion that she inhaled the fumes and sustained injury.
Case handler
Sarah Cunliffe is a solicitor in the Personal Injury department in our Northampton office.
