Car reverses over teacher’s toes

10 June 2009

Our client sustained injuries to both feet when a car reversed over her them as she supervised pupils leaving school for the day.

What we did

We obtained compensation for our client for injuries including crush injuries to both big toes, including fractures of the distal phalanx bones in both toes, soft tissue injuries to both toes, and an injury to both nail beds.

Background

Our client was supervising pupils leaving school at the end of the day when a car reversed up onto a pavement and ran over our client’s feet.

She was taken to hospital where the big toes were cleaned and dressed and X-rays were taken.

Our client had to attend her GP surgery every week for the dressings to be changed. This continued for approximately six months following the accident.

She was off work for six weeks and only able to return on reduced duties after that time. She was able to return to her pre-accident level of activity about six months post-accident.

Our client continued to experience symptoms of ongoing intermittent discomfort in her big toes and the balls of her feet, which was expected to continue to improve over time.

Shoosmiths successfully obtained £9,840 compensation, of which approximately £8,500 was for injuries, and the remaining £1,340 for financial losses.
