£625K settlement for lower leg amputation

01 July 2009

We acted on behalf of our client who was riding his motorbike when a young driver travelling in the opposite direction, lost control of his vehicle and collided with our client’s motorbike.

What we did

An admission of liability was obtained and substantial interim payments were received early on to allow our client to purchase suitable accommodation.    In addition, specialist prostheses were obtained through Dorset Orthopaedics at an early stage funded by interim payments.

Expert evidence was obtained in relation to both the physical and psychological injuries, specialist prosthetic equipment, future care and need requirements and future accommodation requirements.

Background

Our client suffered a lower limb amputation to his left leg and fractures to both wrists together with complex psychological injuries involving depression, PTSD and alcohol dependency.

Prior to the accident, our client worked full-time as a cleaner and has been able to return to part-time light manual work.
