Client sustained back injury in rear end collision
17 August 2009
Our client sustained a back injury in a rear end collision leading to the onset of symptoms arising from pre-existing degenerative changes in his spine.
What we did
Shoosmiths obtain compensation for a client who had suffered the accelerated onset of symptoms from degenerative changes in his spine as a result of a road traffic accident.
Background
Our client was stationary at a roundabout when hit from behind by another vehicle. He sustained a mild to moderate whiplash injury to his neck and lower back. An MRI scan showed marked degenerative changes in the lower spine. A report was obtained from a spinal surgeon which confirmed that the accident had accelerated the onset of back symptoms by three to four years.
Settlement of £6,500 was agreed for injuries and some minor financial losses.
Case handler
This case was handled by Kirsty Clifton, a legal executive in the Serious Injuries Unit, which specialises in claims arising from serious, high value, fatal or catastrophic injuries. As well as sympathetic, accurate and prompt legal advice, we also advise in appropriate cases on rehabilitation, interim payments to help with accommodation, treatment and care as well as financial planning.
