In support of National Apprenticeship Week, we have asked some of our apprentices to share their experiences of life as an apprentice at Shoosmiths.
Tom Barry, Business Administration Apprentice
Why did you apply for an apprenticeship at Shoosmiths?
I applied to work at Shoosmiths because of its reputation for encouraging career progression. I had heard that Shoosmiths offer a lot of their opportunities internally and this was something that attracted me. I could see that Shoosmiths cares about its staff and encourages them to go the extra mile.
How did you find the application / interview process?
The application was made through my college. The interview process was very efficient and enabled me to show what I was about. My interviewer, Matthew Mercer, made me feel very welcome and also gave me a lot of information about Shoosmiths. This made me even more excited about the prospect of joining Shoosmiths.
How did it feel when you found out that you got the offer?
When I was offered the job I was over the moon - joining a company like Shoosmiths has been a great step forward in my career. I couldn't wait for my first day!
How do you find it to balance working and studying?
Balancing my work and study is easier than I thought it was going to be. Shoosmiths gives me time every month to study at work. I find time to study at home too!
What's the best thing about working here?
The people at Shoosmiths are brilliant. I enjoy working with everyone and if you ever have a bad day you know your colleagues are there to support you. The opportunities for progression at Shoosmiths are also a big factor. Being able to see the goals that I can achieve and knowing that I can progress further in my career makes me a lot more motivated.
