The Personal Injury and Medical Negligence Departments are a real powerhouse within Shoosmiths. Over the last twenty years we've become an acknowledged leader in our field, with our success based on two things: our progressive and inclusive working culture, and our use of cutting-edge information and communications technology.

We concentrate on personal injury claims made by individual claimants, and handle more than 50,000 claims a year in the following areas of law:

  • Moving home and conveyancing
  • Personal injury and other compensation as a result of motor accidents
  • Personal injury arising from other (non-motor) accidents, eg employer's liability, public liability and medical negligence
  • Landlord & tenant and other property- related matters
  • Civil litigation
  • 24/7 legal helpline

Our structure is based around claims units, each of which is supported by our highly professional support functions: finance, quality & compliance, HR & training, information systems and office services. We are always looking to find good people to join us right across the division.

  • Serious injury unit
  • Small claims
  • Civil claims (non-PI)

Our Wills, Family and Wealth department deals with a wide range of legal services for individuals and families, including wills, probate and the administration of estates; tax planning; the creation and administration of trusts; and the management of wealth on behalf of incapacitated clients through the Court of Protection and Powers of Attorney.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is the building of long-term relationships with our clients, many of whom come back to us again and again. A considerable amount of our growth is due to repeat purchase by and recommendations from existing clients.

We are closely involved with the rest of the firm, especially as clients of our commercial departments often find what we do very useful.

For more than a decade, our direct conveyancing department has been one of the most progressive and pioneering in the country. We serve clients from all over England and Wales, and are at the forefront of service development in house moves, re-mortgages and equity transfer.

We deliver a different and better offer to home-movers, and we are 100% committed to giving them an industry-leading level of personal, friendly and effective service.

In 2007 we received more than 25,000 instructions, most of which came from recommendations from estate agents, mortgage brokers, satisfied returning clients, or simply through word of mouth.
