Kate is an experienced tax lawyer and also head of tax in Birmingham. Kate’s clients include banks, private equity houses, FTSE 100 national brands and foreign companies, as well as major local businesses. She advises clients on all aspects of corporate and business tax and has significant experience of private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and reorganisations. Kate has been described by the Legal 500 directory as ‘technically excellent’ and is noted for advice given to private equity houses.

Kate’s recent experience includes:
- advising Thorntons plc on the tax and employee incentivisation aspects of the sale of the British chocolatier to Italian confectioner Ferrero International S.A. for £112m
- acting for MML Capital Partners on its investment into education and training provider, the Learning Curve Group
- acting for a private equity house on its acquisition of the Canadian loss making arm of HMV, involving the assignment, bifurcation and restructuring of existing UK and cross border loan relationships
- advising Midlands Co-operative on the merger of its travel and foreign exchange business with two national travel agencies in a deal which created the UK's largest travel agency
Kate joined Shoosmiths in 2014 from Pinsent Masons where she was a senior associate. Previous to that, Kate practised at Addleshaw Goddard for 6 years and trained at Morgan Cole.
