Melanie is the national head of Asset Finance within the Recoveries Services Group. Melanie is based in our Northampton office and but regularly works out of the Birmingham office. Melanie provides advice to the finance industry in relation to recovery of assets and monies. Melanie is well known within the Finance and Leasing Association and other trade bodies.
Mel has been ranked in the Motor Finance - Power 50 for the last 3 years. The Motor Finance "Power 50" lists the top 50 most influential people in the UK Motor Finance industry.
Melanie has more than 16 years experience in the finance industry and is known for being robust and commercial. Melanie has particular expertise in dealing with fraud and injunctive relief in relation to motor vehicles and other high-value assets to include cross border and out of jurisdiction recoveries. Melanie also specialises in title disputes, innocent purchaser claims, satisfactory quality disputes, liens, consumer credit issues and guarantee claims.
Career successes include acting for 7 finance houses in the recovery of more than 60 motor vehicles with combined worth of over 1 million pounds through the use of injunctive relief and other self help remedies; advising various finance houses in respect of a £5m dealer fraud in Wales; advising finance houses on complex issues of title and commercial recovery of their position and acting for finance houses against various high-profile individuals to recover assets and monies.
Melanie trained with Shoosmiths qualifying in 2000 and returned to the firm in January 2011 from Gateley where she was a partner in the Banking and Asset Finance team.
