The prime minister has proposed a radical reform to the planning system which will be “unlike anything we have seen since the Second World War”. This includes a complete overhaul of the current system of Section 106 agreements and the Community Infrastructure Levy (“CIL”) regime.
In a blog for the Royal Town Planning Institute, Shoosmiths’ joint head of planning, Kathryn Jump, assesses the government’s Planning for the Future white paper, published in August 2020, to see whether the overhaul of the planning system it proposes is likely to have a greater chance of success than the six previous attempts from over the last 80 years.
