The future of our town centres

Although COVID-19 has been a destructor of the UK high street, town centres were already facing decline due to a number of factors, including the rise in online shopping.

However, while retail sales are now recovering, town centres are still suffering. So, what does this mean for developers, investor landlords, local authorities and other stakeholders when considering the options for property advancement and ever-evolving consumers' interests?

Shoosmiths teamed up with Planning Resource magazine to hold a webinar at which planning partner David Mathias, U+I Creative Director Martyn Evans, Planning Officers Society Chairman Michael Kiely, and CBRE Head of Research Jennet Siebrits discussed various issues around the future of our town centres, including:

  • How demand for town centre property is changing post pandemic
  • How the planning environment for town centres has changed
  • How developers are responding to changes in market demand and planning
  • Proactive options for local authorities wanting to reinforce and adapt their town centres
