Ancala makes first investment into social care sector

Infrastructure investment managers Ancala has made its first move into the social care sector after the acquisition of Holmleigh Care, a residential and home care specialist across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon.

Ancala is an established infrastructure investment manager with a number of investments including Portsmouth Water, Leep Utilities, SAGE North Sea Pipeline, Biogen, Dragon LNG, HS Orka and the Orites wind farm.

They were advised by the social care specialist team at Shoosmiths (as co-counsel with Travers Smith) led by corporate partner Paul Batchelor and closely supported by Gareth Cook and Marcus-Adam Tuck together with specialist advice from colleagues in regulatory, employment, pensions and data privacy.

Ancala director Tim Power said: “Paul and his team’s specialist social care expertise was an important contributor to the overall due diligence conducted in preparation for this investment.”

Corporate partner Paul Batchelor said: “We were delighted to have supported Ancala and its entry into the social care sector. I was particularly impressed by the time and effort Tim and team put in to thoroughly diligence the business and prepare themselves for the responsibility of owning a care business. Holmleigh is in good hands.”

Holmleigh management, which oversees 38 specialist homes across 23 sites, will remain, as will its staff.
