Nicola Wilburn-Shaw to head up Shoosmiths Manchester family law practice

Shoosmiths has further strengthened its award-winning national family law team with the recruitment of Nicola Wilburn-Shaw who joins the firm as a partner with a remit to take the lead in growing the family law offering in Manchester.

Previously a partner with the boutique Cheshire outfit, McAlister Family Law, Nicola has reputation for being a tenacious litigator whilst maintaining a compassionate and fair approach.

Best known for her work with high net worth clients, many of whom have traditionally been sports and media personalities and high ranking business executives, Nicola brings vast and extensive experience of all aspects of family law, from pre and post-nuptial agreements to cohabitee disputes concerning property and provision for children (known as “Schedule 1” cases) as well as matters relating to international divorce.

Furthermore, having originally qualified in fraud litigation, Nicola has the unique ability of invaluable insight and experience of forensic investigations into complex business assets and holdings and/or concerns over hidden or undisclosed finances. Her proven skills in these matters means she is a safe pair of hands for high net worth individuals needing technical expertise combined with her discretion and pragmatism.  Her extensive media training with the BBC means she can both advise and support her clients in media matters should the need arise.

Nicola said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Shoosmiths’ highly rated family team and I am really looking forward to developing and growing our offering from the firm’s impressive Manchester location.  The firm really does understand that family law advice needs to be clear and practical, but also sensitive and discreet.  I am looking forward to being part of a team that genuinely believes your family and your business matters and that puts delivery of a premium client service at the heart of its ethos”.

Caroline Watson, head of Shoosmiths family team said: “I am delighted to welcome Nicola to the team.  I am certain her considerable skills will enhance our existing capability and allow us to expand and improve our range of services.”
