Shoosmiths residential development experts advise Kier Living on prestigious Cardiff site

UK law firm Shoosmiths has advised long-standing client Kier Living on its successful bid to provide exclusive, high-quality homes in one of Cardiff’s largest and more prestigious residential developments.

The Churchlands development site in Lisvane, Cardiff, will be transformed into a 1,000-home site with a new school, district centre and extensive areas of public open space, Kier Living will build up to 330 homes on the site from two-bedroom starter homes to five-bedroom properties.

Building work is expected to start later this year.

Birmingham-based Shoosmiths real estate partner Bhavesh Amlani led on the deal, with support from real estate senior associate Benjamin Smith and planning senior associate Matthew Stimson.

Bhavesh said: “This is an exciting development for Cardiff and I am delighted to have led the legal team that helped Kier move one step closer to delivering on its vision for a high-quality development for the city.”

Owing to the size of the site, the purchase was complicated, demanding various collaboration conditions with both the landowner and the other developer on site including interface constraints from both a technical and planning perspective.

John Anderson, executive director at Kier Living, said: “This latest development at Lisvane marks an important milestone for our Wales and West region, which continues to flourish and address housing supply in areas of the country with the greatest need.

“Bhavesh and the team at Shoosmiths have offered us exemplary advice at every stage and look forward to working with them on our next project.”

Shoosmiths' real estate team services a wide variety of clients on real estate, construction, planning, property litigation and environmental issues.

Clients range from commercial and residential developers to investors, major corporate occupiers and public sector bodies. The firm recently won Legal Team of the Year by an independent judging panel for at the Estates Gazette Awards, 2018.
