Senior cyber incident response lawyer joins Shoosmiths

UK law firm Shoosmiths has appointed Philip Tansley, an expert in cyber incident response, as a partner based in their London office. Philip was previously a partner at Keystone Law and co-founded a multi-award winning multi-disciplinary incident response service.

Philip will be joining Shoosmiths to further develop their cyber incident response capability, complimenting their existing emergency response service and leading data protection and privacy practice. Philip’s cyber practice encompasses incident response/crisis management advice, investigations, advising on regulatory issues arising from cyber incidents (including financial conduct, professional standards and payment card industry compliance as well as data protection) and representing clients in follow-on litigation and regulatory investigations.

As well as advising on cyber incident response, Philip is also an experienced technology litigator representing a variety of clients in court proceedings and arbitrations involving issues such as project delays, termination and software licensing. For many years, Philip worked extensively for London Market insurers and he continues to act for insurers and insureds on a variety of complex insurance coverage matters.

National Head of Litigation Services Alex Bishop said: “In the post-GDPR world where the notification of a breach is mandatory and with cyber breaches and security issues being of critical importance to all businesses, we welcome Philip Tansley to the Shoosmiths team with his strength in depth of expertise and reputation in this area.”

Philip Tansley said: “I am delighted to be joining Shoosmiths. The firm has a great data protection and privacy team, fantastic clients and a very genuine culture. Most importantly for me, it also has a clear strategic vision to invest in this important and rapidly evolving area.”
