Shoosmiths ‘does the double’ to win two recruitment and training awards

UK law firm Shoosmiths is celebrating after winning two awards within two weeks, recognising its excellence in recruitment and training within the legal sector.

Awarded the best recruiter for a national/large regional firm category at the LawCareers.Net Training and Recruitment Awards, the firm has beaten off stiff competition including Eversheds Sutherland and Addleshaw Goddard.

The aim of the LawCareers.Net Training and Recruitment Awards is to identify and celebrate excellence within law firms’ training and recruitment processes. Winners are acclaimed for their commitment to ensuring future lawyers are fully supported in joining a firm and in growing their legal careers.

The awards are based on an extensive survey of trainees and newly qualified solicitors, with respondents asked to give an honest review of their own experiences and score their firm on criteria that includes recruitment, work placements, training and their training principal.

In a separate ceremony, Samantha Hope won the award for the best individual contribution at the HR in Law Awards, recognising her ongoing commitment to widen access to a career in law. Judges at the awards were impressed by Samantha’s ‘authentic and far-reaching engagement with social media’ and from a recruitment perspective, she has ‘made Shoosmiths appealing to candidates from more diverse backgrounds.’

“What impresses me the most is Samantha’s commitment to ensuring that candidates receive an excellent experience. Whether they are unsuccessful, or make it all the way through to receive a training contract offer, Samantha is always thinking about the little things that will make a big impact.

“In addition to the great talent she has recruited, the numerous awards and the fantastic brand awareness she has built, I am most proud of the way she is changing how we market the legal profession as a career to the next generation.”

HR in Law is a UK-based membership organisation that promotes standards in HR, and encourages the professional development of HR practitioners working within the legal sector.

Danielle Owens, head of recruitment at Shoosmiths said: “The recognition from winning two awards in a short space of time is testament to our team’s exceptional commitment in offering our candidates the best possible recruitment experience. In recruiting top talent, we appreciate academic qualifications aren’t the only measure of success, and that equality and diversity are not just things we ‘do’, but are embedded in Shoosmiths. We offer a vibrant, energetic and supportive culture for legal careers to thrive in.”
