Northern hub ambition bears fruit as Shoosmiths' Leeds office gets two nods at Yorkshire Legal Awards

Less than two years since taking up offices in the city, Shoosmiths' Leeds office has twice been shortlisted at this year's Yorkshire Legal Awards.

Shoosmiths, which relocated into Platform in March this year, is up for two awards - commercial property team of the year, and litigation and dispute resolution team of the year.

New head of office Matthew Howarth said the nominations were recognition that the office had already made great strides in its ambition of creating a Northern hub of legal expertise and growing its presence in Yorkshire.

"To be recognised at the Yorkshire Legal Awards less than two years after setting up in Leeds is a massive boost to the office, and recognises what we have achieved in such a short time," he added.

"We are extremely proud to have been nominated, and it tells us that the long-term strategy we have in mind, not just for Leeds but across Yorkshire, is working and giving us the results that we want."

Shoosmiths Leeds launched in December 2016, attracting some of the region's leading legal talent from a raft of competitor law firms - with Paul Stokey as office head.

It then moved into a new state-of-the-art workspace at Platform earlier this year and recently announced that it had agreed to take an additional floor at the building, to accommodate continued expansion.

Winners of the Yorkshire Legal Awards - which are now in its 19h year - will be announced at a ceremony at the New Dock Hall, Leeds, on October 11.
