The COVID-19 Public Inquiry – Practicalities, Possibilities and Predictions

On 15th December 2021, the government appointed the Rt Hon Baroness Heather Hallett DBE as chair of the forthcoming Public Inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support all and any businesses who have been affected by the pandemic, and who might wish or be required to take part in the Inquiry, we will be taking a whirlwind tour through the world of inquiries, looking at the practicalities and challenges participation in an inquiry presents. We will also be dusting off our crystal ball and setting out our expectations for what will undoubtedly be one of the highest profile hearings of recent times.

Our panel of speakers will include Shoosmiths’ partners Charles Arrand and Paul Eccles. We are also delighted to welcome experienced Inquiry Counsel Fiona Barton QC, from 5 Essex Court.

Our speakers will cover:

  • Public Inquiry basics, including purposes and outcomes
  • Previous experiences of Public Inquiries, including examples of successful and not-so-successful approaches
  • Predictions for the COVID-19 Public Inquiry, including time for questions
