International dispute resolution

Our specialist team regularly advises clients from across the world on their international dispute resolution and litigation matters.

The complex and global market in which businesses now operate makes disputes between parties in different jurisdictions inevitable. The successful resolution of a dispute requires a dedicated and experienced team with a wide range of legal skills combined with a commercial focus. Our litigation lawyers  understand that disputes often can be time consuming, costly and a distraction from the core task of running a business but are often unavoidable or strategically necessary.

We regularly advise clients across the world on litigation matters. We act for a wide range of international clients in proceedings in the Courts in England and Wales Scotland, or Northern Ireland. We recognise that the legal process in these jurisdictions may be very different to the systems. that international clients may be most familiar with and we help to guide such clients through the process and explain matters in a straightforward way.  Our team is international in all senses of the word, and the team includes individuals who are dual qualified in various key jurisdictions across the world and who have worked internationally for significant parts of their career.

In addition, we have longstanding relationships with litigation and dispute resolution departments of firms across the globe and we regularly advise on cross-border matters. We regularly co-counsel with partner firms in the World Services Group or with our client’s preferred advisers.

Our recent international disputes work includes:

  • Acting for Opel Automotive on a $19 million multi-jurisdictional contractual dispute with an international importer that has been issued in the Commercial Court in England. The claim is both high value and politically sensitive in that it involves the state potentially blocking new imports of Opel vehicles into the jurisdiction
  • Acting for a global car manufacturer in its $50 million claim against a Polish supplier that led to a High Court action and international injunctive relief
  • Acting for a global car manufacturer in respect of a £30 million claim arising from the potential closure of its Pakistan manufacturing business
  • Acting for a US client on a claim valued in excess of $40 million arising from the acquisition of international business group
