Shoosmiths has been voted one of the top law firms for graduates to work for.

And the national firm was ranked 40th in all sectors, ahead of household names such as Asda, IBM, Rolls-Royce and Marks & Spencer.

Shoosmiths scored 4.14 out of a maximum five in the 2012/13 Top Companies for Graduates to Work For list, which is compiled by The JobCrowd, described by The Times as giving graduate recruits 'a chance to speak their minds'.

Among the comments posted anonymously by graduates were: 'The people who work at Shoosmiths are great', while one praised the 'open attitude and approachability of all the staff'.

Another review highlights the firm's 'inclusive and supportive culture, where I am always encouraged to progress in my role'; and its work/life balance earns plaudits, too.

Shoosmiths was ranked second among law firms, ahead of rivals including Simmons & Simmons, Clifford Chance and Linklaters.

The overall top 100 was headed by Microsoft and featured blue chip companies such as Sky, Waitrose, British Airways, John Lewis and BP.

Shoosmiths director of HR Louise Hadland said: "This is a great result, and doubly pleasing because it's based on what the graduates have said through an independent third party. It's a reflection, too, of the effort we put into making Shoosmiths an
inclusive and rewarding place to work."

The success comes hot on the heels of the firm announcing it has retained all 16 of its 2010 trainee intake.

The JobCrowd graduate employer rankings are based entirely on thousands of reviews written on by employees in their first three years of work at hundreds of UK graduate employers.

The UK's leading graduate job review website, it hosts thousands of reviews, all written anonymously by graduate employees at graduate employers.

These reveal what the day-to-day of the job really involves, working hours, salaries, advice for applicants, and the best and worst things about their employer and job.
