Shoosmiths has been voted by graduates the best law firm to work for - bettering last year's second place.

Shoosmiths scored 4.3 from a maximum 5 in the 2013/14 Top Companies for Graduates to Work For list, compiled by

It puts the national firm alongside sector winners such as Boots (retail), Nationwide (banking and finance), and Innocent Drinks (consumer goods).

Categories businesses are scored on include company culture, training and support, career progression, and work/life balance.

One reviewer posted that they liked '.the challenging and interesting work; friendly and professional people; can-do and encouraging work environment; accessible support from all levels; and feeling that you're valued'.

Shoosmiths graduate recruitment manager Samantha Hope said: "Being voted top law firm is proof that creating and maintaining an inclusive, rewarding working environment is vitally important. We want our graduates to be happy working here."

The firm finished 22nd overall, in a top 100 headed again by Microsoft, and featuring blue chip companies such as Sky, Vodafone, GlaxoSmithKline and Mars.

Keren Mitchell, co-founder of, said that firms with offices outside of the City performed particularly well in the survey.

Mitchell explained: "Of the six law firms that made the Top 100, there was outstanding representation from national firms - led by Shoosmiths, who were exceptionally well rated. Even beyond the top 100 listed companies, we saw a number of smaller firms being rated in excess of many of their larger competitors."

The rankings are based entirely on thousands of reviews written on by employees in their first three years of work at hundreds of UK graduate employers.

These reveal what the day-to-day of the job really involves, working hours, salaries, advice for applicants, and the best and worst things about their employer and their job.

The full 2013/14 list can be viewed at is the UK's largest graduate job review site - like a TripAdvisor for graduate jobs. TheJobCrowd surveys thousands of graduate-level employees at hundreds of employers every year and publishes a rankings of the best rated companies. The rankings are published as a print guide and distributed to 70,000 students, at every UK university.
