Ellis has over 16 years' experience working for major UK city law firms. This includes seven and a half years working in the real estate groups at city firms Dechert and Manches, where he was head of the property retail group. For the past seven years Ellis has been a partner at Geldards and grown its national retail group from a standing start. He also sat on the firm's national management board. He is recognised in Legal 500 and Chambers as a leading individual in the region, with his retail skills particularly praised.

Shoosmiths' head of real estate, Simon Boss, said: 'Ellis is joining our successful and well established national retail property team which in Nottingham includes partners David Morley, Sean Burke and Deborah Gordon Brown.

'Ellis has a strong local and national reputation in the retail property sector and he will work with our existing retail team to strengthen and grow existing client relationships. We are delighted that he made the move across to Shoosmiths and are confident he will add value to our practice very quickly.'

Commenting on his move, Ellis said: 'I admire Shoosmiths focus and ambitions in the UK legal market, as well as its successful retail practice. The move to Shoosmiths provides an opportunity for me to work as part of a larger national firm which has a broad spread both geographically and in terms of legal expertise, which benefits retail clients.

'I am familiar with many of my future colleagues and I have the greatest respect for them, having worked on various projects alongside Shoosmiths from time to time.'

Ellis joins a growing retail team, which has seen two new starters - a senior associate and a solicitor - join in the last couple of months. Another solicitor is expected to join the team in May.

The firm provides advice to retailers across many disciplines which in real estate includes development, funding, leasing, portfolio management, acquisition and disposal of real estate. The firm has one of theUK's leading real estate teams, ranked top-tier in the Legal 500 and in the Chambers and Partners guides.
