Corporate specialists at Shoosmiths have advised Patriot Aerospace on its acquisition of commercial helicopter charter specialist Veritair Aviation.

Shoosmiths' team was led by corporate associate Emma Dolphin, with support from solicitor Alistair Hammerton.
Patriot Aerospace Group is a leading General Aviation specialist in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. With operations spanning a full range of national flight training, charter, sales and engineering operations, the group combines three distinct brands, each recognised as experts in their field.

The deal, which underlines Patriot's determination to form a credible UK alternative to the foreign owned companies currently dominating the commercial helicopter sector, enabled Sir Peter Rigby's aviation group to acquire a significant majority share in the Cardiff-based heliport operator.

Dolphin said: "We thoroughly welcomed the opportunity to advise Patriot Aerospace on its very strategic move to add to its existing business.

"The deal required a pragmatic approach on our part in order to reach its successful completion. Our technical expertise certainly paid dividends, particularly owing to the timescales we were working to.

"This exciting acquisition has further enhanced our client's competitive edge within the commercial helicopter sector and we're delighted with the outcome. We look forward to working with Patriot on more opportunities in the future."

Paul Southall, finance director of Patriot, said: "We are delighted to announce the completion of a deal which incorporates another profitable and successful company into the aviation group. Shoosmiths were an important part of the project team and we have really benefitted from the team's commercial approach, as much as its technical legal input".
