Shoosmiths’ client, Michael Sorby, was today acquitted of all charges in a bribery prosecution brought by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). The prosecution followed a Deferred Prosecution Agreement entered into by the SFO and Sarclad Ltd in July 2016.
The Managing Director, Michael Sorby, and two other employees were accused of conspiring with various overseas sales agents during the period of 2004-2011 and offering bribes to secure contracts for their firm, a steel technology business. Today, all three defendants were acquitted of all bribery and conspiracy to corrupt charges at Southwark Crown Court.
Dan Stowers, the Shoosmiths partner representing Mr Sorby, said: “The prosecution was brought by the SFO following an investigation carried out by solicitors for Heico who acquired Sarclad in 2000. My client, who denied the charges throughout, is delighted that he has been acquitted by a jury based on the evidence gathered by the SFO during a flawed investigation.”
