The new team will be operating as part of Access Legal, the firm's private client arm. The new hires will work with existing family law partner Marika Franceschi, and specialists Claire Christie and Karen Nicol in Shoosmiths' family law team.

Partner Neil Hobden, previously at boutique practice Benussi & Co, will head up Shoosmiths' national family law practice, advising on all aspects of family law and will be based in Birmingham. He is acknowledged as a 'Leading Individual' in the Chambers 2015 Directory which also reports he is 'an excellent practitioner' with 'a real feel for the commercial resolution of a dispute'.

Associate, Chris Longbottom, joins Shoosmiths' Manchester office from Aaron & Partners at the beginning of December. He advises private clients on a range of family and matrimonial issues, with a focus on the high net worth market and complex legal issues.

Rebecca Calden-Storr, who has been appointed as a solicitor, was formerly a litigator at Wragge & Co and Mills & Reeve.

Neil Hobden said: 'We are looking forward to growing Shoosmiths' national family law capacity and client base. I am planning to use the Shoosmiths office network to provide a range of premium legal services for individuals, and am excited to join an award winning firm renown for its' client experience.'

Richard Follis, head of private client at Shoosmiths said: 'We are very excited by these appointments, which we see as a step toward developing our national family law practice in both Scotland and England. Our clients have often asked us for family law recommendations so we decided it was time to offer this service to meet client need.'

Shoosmiths offers a full range of family law services in England and Scotland to individuals as part of its Private Client Practice Group (PCPG). This Group comprises conveyancing, wealth protection, consumer litigation, and family law, providing a range of premium legal services direct to consumers. The Group is known as Shoosmiths Access Legal because it gives private clients access to the law through friendly, approachable people who know that understanding individual need is the first step to making the law work for them. This offering is backed by all the expertise and scale of Shoosmiths LLP and is delivered through the same nationwide network of offices; however, it has its own dedicated home on the internet.
