The landmark building, on the corner of Colmore Row and Waterloo Street, overlooking Victoria Square, was previously owned by Birmingham City Council.

It was purchased by a Chinese-led consortium, with the assistance of Birmingham property developers Court Collaboration and local lawyer James Ng, in a multi-million pound deal in February of this year.

The building is now set to be brought back to life as a destination restaurant by the award-winning Lasan group. Business partners Aktar Islam and Jabbar Khan - winners of 2010's 'F Word' TV show for best local restaurant in the UK - hope to have the new venue up and running by spring 2015.

Shoosmiths' Birmingham-based real estate team, led by partner and office head Jason Jackson and also including senior associate Catherine Hood, who works with real estate investors, developers and corporate occupiers, acted for the landlord of the building on the new letting.

Jason Jackson said: 'This deal, incorporating a landmark city centre building and one of the city's most high-profile restaurant groups is proof that there is a real buzz gathering around the Birmingham city centre commercial property market at the moment. With many more high profile deals in the pipeline I see a very positive 2015 for the city's property sector.

'The depth of our expertise here in the Shoosmiths real estate team in Birmingham means we can handle the full range of letting and development transactions all under one roof. With a team of more than 100 real estate lawyers and staff in Birmingham, Shoosmiths' continues to build one of the city and region's leading real estate practices.'

Senior associate Catherine Hood commented: 'This is a landmark deal for a beautiful Georgian building which was bought in a very high profile deal by Chinese investors earlier this year. To now have the Lasan group taking up tenancy of the building guarantees it will continue to play a major role in the life of Colmore Row and the wider city centre and we are all very excited to see the new restaurant take shape.'
