National law firm Shoosmiths is celebrating success following the announcement of the recoveries services practice group's 'top tier' Legal 500 rankings.
The directory consulted clients and industry professionals for references, and results show the recoveries services practice group headed by partner Waine Mannix is very much at the top of its game.
Shoosmiths debt recovery work has been ranked top tier in five regions of the UK - London, South East (Reading), East Midlands (Northampton and Nottingham), West Midlands (Birmingham) and North West (Manchester). The group's debt recovery has also been ranked tier three in Scotland (Edinburgh), an admirable result following the firm's Scottish debut less than two years ago.
Waine Mannix, Jim Taylor and Wendy Rainbow (London and Northampton), Darren Shaw (Manchester), Mel Chell (London, Northampton and Birmingham), Rod Macphail and Andrew Foyle (both Edinburgh) have been all recommended.
The directory also said the group's frontline staff provided 'great support and advice' to clients including lenders, debt purchasers, financial services and corporate businesses. The firm's debt recovery teams have been described as having 'knowledgeable individuals', being 'very professional', 'exceptional' and are a 'leader in the debt recovery market'. In banking litigation, Shoosmiths has been ranked tier two in the North West (Manchester) and the West Midlands (Birmingham).
Harold Brako and Helen Collinge in Manchester have been recommended. The directory says the 'excellent' team covers a wide range of disputes for clients such as Bibby Financial Services, RBS and The Co-operative Bank.The team in Manchester has been described by referees as a 'leader in its class',valued for its 'integrity' and 'cost-effective' approach.
Mel Chell in Birmingham has been described as 'a tenacious character', who 'puts the client first' and is particularly recommended for asset finance litigation. In the 2014 Legal 500 directory, Shoosmiths UK-wide rankings rose significantly, with the firm being given top tier recognition in 29 practice areas, with a further 60 practice areas recommended. Top tier rankings are up by 11% year on year, with 19% of the firm's submissions recording a rise up the tables.
A total of 31% of Shoosmiths' teams are now ranked as tier one across the UK.
