Author: Alastair Gray

Shoosmiths has been shortlisted in two categories for the Credit Today Debt Collection Awards 2013.

The national law firm's Recoveries Services Group (RSG) is up for Best Customer Initiative and Compliance Team of the Year.

Its Best Customer Initiative submission centres on the initiative it has developed to ensure it treats fairly those client customers who are considered vulnerable.

Judges will be looking for a breakthrough or innovation that furthers 'a supportive approach to debtors suffering from genuine financial hardship'.

RSG head of compliance Diane Forster is behind the Compliance Team of the Year entry. Judges here want to see evidence of success in several areas, including customer/client satisfaction; adherence to regulatory best practice and guidelines; good management and HR practices; and technical, process and systems performance.

The judging panel includes Credit Services Association president Sara de Tute; Jaime Graham, director, collections and recoveries at Santander; Kevan McGrail, HSBC head of UK collections and recoveries; and Volkswagen Financial Services head of collections Claire Moore.

Shoosmiths' RSG brings together recoveries for two sectors: lenders and other major businesses. Clients include UK and European banks, major building societies, independent and manufacturer-owned motor finance companies, other asset-based lenders, together with major debt purchasers, corporates and plcs.

Shoosmiths will learn whether is has won at a ceremony held Manchester's Midland Hotel, on 13 November.
